Join the Santa Barbara Trails Council (SBTC), Los Padres Forest Association (LPFA) and SB County Outdoor Foundation (SBCOF) for a State Trails Day project on several spectacular Midland Ranch Trails, adjacent to Los Padres National Forest. The project is co-sponsored with Midland School and is designed to help complete brushing and tread work so the public may enjoy the trails this summer.  For more information click here.

Experience a vital link to our living history: America's wild horses! Learn about the origins of the horse in America, how they shaped American cultures, what they face in the world today and what we are doing to preserve them. Watch a 10 minute introductory DVD in the barn, engage in a brief Q&A, then head out to meet the herds and see the sanctuary. The tour will focus on the diversity, individual stories and the historical significance of America's wild horses. Light refreshments will be provided. Suggested minimum donation $25 per adult, $10 for children under 12. 10am-12pm

Wine Trail Day
. Try some new wineries or revisit your old favorites.  After a day of outdoor activities the previous day, Sunday is a great time to check out the Santa Ynez Valley Wine Trail.  Click here for printable maps.

Wednesday, June 6th:



Locavore Trail Day. Visit the Solvang Farmer's Market or any number of local farmstands and support your local farmers.  Local olive oils such as Rancho Olivos or Global Gardens pair well with fresh bread from a local bakery.  Take home a local Santa Ynez Valley gift of lavendar, honey or even Ostrich eggs!

Thursday, June 7th:


Bike Trail Day. Whether you're a leisurely bike rider or a marathon rider, the Santa Ynez Valley has many bike trails for you to explore.

Friday, June 8th:


 Water Trails Day.  Enjoy lakes, water falls or even head down to the Santa Ynez river bed (on Alisal in Solvang or off Avenue of Flags in Buellton) for hikes, boating, and other trail tours.

 

LAKE CACHUMA: Take a hike around Lake Cachuma, rent a boat or kayak, or participate in one of their group activities such as a Wildlife Nature Cruise

Saturday, June 9th:

 

1.) Santa Ynez Valley Historic Trails Day.  Features Old Santa Ynez Day, Spaghetti Western Dinner at the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum.  For a self-guided tour take a look at the Santa Ynez Valley Stagecoach Trail.  The stagecoach was deeply involved in the history of the Santa Ynez Valley. The stagecoach ran from San Francisco to Yuma, Arizona, passing through the Valley as early as 1858. In 1860, a stage station was established near what is now the town of Ballard.  Take a drive on the Stagecoach Trail and end your drive at the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum to learn more.

2.) Volunteer Day at Return to Freedom, an American Wild Horse Sanctuary

The second Saturday of each month meet up with other volunteers and Return to Freedom staff as we push up our sleeves and tackle various projects around the ranch ~ gardening, carpentry, manure scooping, painting, fence repair, sustainability projects, habitat preservation, event preparation, and more.  Bring your own lunch. Light refreshments provided. 9am-4pm, followed by a short hike to see the herds at 4pm.
